Soldiers May Not Be Allowed To Fire Up

The military is being pressured, by Pentagon health advisors, to ban the use and sell of tobacco.

A rise in tobacco usage and higher costs have been cited as the reasons for the recommendation. According to a USAToday story, a study by the Institute of Medicine says tobacco should be phased out over the next 20 years. Used as a “stress reliever,” tobacco usage has increased since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began, the study found.

The Study says:

  • One-third of the military uses tobacco, compared to one-fifth of Americans.
  • Combat troops are 50 percent more likely to use tobacco than non-combat troops.

The House Is Taking A Robin Hood Approach To Health Care

Courtesy of standupforhealthcare.org

Courtesy of standupforhealthcare.org

The House is working on drafting legislation that will use a “rob from the rich and give to the poor” method to help provide health care coverage to the 50 million Americans who can’t afford it.

Under the new bill, individuals with an adjusted gross income of more than $200,000 and couples whose AGI is over $250,000 would be taxed to help tackle the cost. Employers who don’t offer health care benefits are expected to be taxed as well.

SabreeThinks…

This is legislation that should have been written decades ago.

There are too many citizens without health care. If America wants to proclaim itself the best country in the world it needs to step it up when it comes to caring about the needs of its people. McNair’s Affair Led To His Death

 CNN photo
Retired NFL star Steve McNair’s death has exposed an affair he was having with the young woman ,who along with him, were found shot to death in his downtown Nashville condominium this past Saturday.

Here‘s what the authorities know: McNair, 39, was shot four times, two in the head and two in the chest. Sahel Kazemi, 20, suffered one gunshot wound to the head. The handgun, which Kazemi purchased, was found underneath her body. They know McNair was murdered but don’t know if Kazemi was murdered or committed suicide.

The two met while she was working as a waiter at a local sports bar and had been dating for several months, according to Kazemi’s family. The family also said that she was under the impression that McNair was going through a divorce even though legal documentation proving this has not surfaced.

For instance, if you want to travel across the country, do it.

If you want to see Beyonce perform in Las Vegas in August or attend a taping of The Oprah Winfrey show in Chicago, what are you waiting for? Cataracts, menopause, a 401(k) plan? You may not be blessed to make it to see your 50th birthday, so why not go now?

Old Lineup Practice Smells Fishy

Courtesy of pbs.org

Courtesy of pbs.org

Two lawsuits have put a longstanding method of choosing suspects from police lineups under wide scrutiny.

According to a USA Today story, “lawsuits filed in Victoria, Texas, allege that Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Pikett and his team of hounds — James Bond, Quincy and Clue — failed controversial sniff tests known as ‘scent lineups.’

“Since 2004, two men in Florida and one in California have been freed after DNA evidence exonerated them. They had been convicted, in part, on the use of scent evidence…”

This practice is less reliable than the lie detector test. It can be beneficial and probably is effective the majority of the time, but that is not good enough when it deals the incarceration of people. Every person that has been convicted based on “scent evidence” should have their case reviewed.

SabreeThinks “scent evidence” is junk science and needs to be discontinued immediately.

Vick’s Prison Time Not Sufficient, Yahoo! Reports

Fox.news

Fox.news

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell won’t let former NFL star Michael Vick walk onto the field without having expressed “remorse” for his criminal actions, according to Yahoo! Sports (see story).

Vick, due to be released from a federal prison in late July, has been serving a 20-month stint for his role in a dog-fighting ring. It is unlikely that Vick will be allowed to play this season or attend any teams training camp, the story reported.

Goodell has reiterated several times that he wants to personally evaluate Vick and have a private sit-down to determine if he is worthy of getting a second chance to play in the NFL.

The commissioner is known as a stickler for the rules when it comes to his players off-field issues. He recently suspended Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth who plead guilty to DUI manslaughter in March. Currently, he is contemplating suspending New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who is connected to a possession and firing of an unregistered gun in a NYC nightclub in November, according to the story.

Goodell is on some sort of an ego-trip and needs to sit down somewhere.  He does have to set guidelines but the NFL is not anymore out-of-control than any other organization or business. There are almost 2,000 players who are currently playing in the NFL. It seems as if the NFL is full of criminals because whenever one gets in trouble news of it is blown out of proportion.

Iraqis Elated American Troops Have Gone

As promised, American combat troops withdrew from Iraqi cities today marking a critical first step towards all American forces leaving the country by Dec. 31, 2011.

Iraqis have been celebrating the troops withdrawal since last night, reportedly setting off fireworks and having celebrations in the streets.

The Iraqi government declared today National Sovereignty Day, a celebration of the U.S.-led invasion six years ago that threw Saddam Hussein out of power.

Although more than 130,000 U.S. troops remain in Iraq the country’s security has been turned over to Iraqi police and soldiers. President Obama has said that all combat troops will have left by the end of 2010.

Thankfully, it finally came. Sadly, another four troops died in the process.

SabreeThinks Iraqis needed to take control of their own situation and have been wanting to for some time, so this departure was long overdue.

New Haven Firefighters Deserved Promotion, Supreme Court Rules

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Caucasian firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were treated unfairly by being denied promotions because of their race .

This reverses a decision that newly-appointed Supreme Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor ruled in favor of.

The city disregarded the promotion exams’ results, to avoid lawsuits from the African-American and Hispanic firefighter who took the test. No African-Americans passed, two Hispanics did.

The city was abiding by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which states “it is unlawful to discriminate against any individual in regard to recruiting, hiring and promotion, … or any other term, condition, or privilege of employment.”

I’m not sure what to conclude about this case.

On one hand it’s messed up that someone can honestly pass an exam and not be allowed to reap the benefits of passing. But then it does seem suspicious if one set of people pass a test and another set fail. This is not to say that this could not happen, because it could. Is this the case with the New Haven firefighters case?

Church Tells Congregation To Bring Its Guns

Courtesy of nbcaugusta.com

Courtesy of nbcaugusta.com

According to a USA Today article, a Louisville, KY church encouraged attendees to bring  their firearms with them to church for a celebration that was dedicated to the second amendment. (See story)

The pastor says it came up with the celebration after many “church members expressed concern about the Obama administration’s views on gun control…We are wanting to send a message that there are legal, civil, intelligent and law-abiding citizens who also own guns.”

This sounds more like a cult of trigger-happy, supposed-to-be “conservatives” with a distaste and fear of positive change in America.

The type of people who attended this service are the same types of people who maniacs, like Hitler and Jim Jones, persuade to do idiotic things, by way of hyping up their emotions and pumping fear and anger into them.

Get a clue.

Radicals, who read the second amendment more than they read their religious scripture are why so many people, especially themselves, are so terrified of anything with a heartbeat.

SabreeThinks this way of thinking is sickening, not patriotic.

Video: S.C. Governor’s Argentine Mistress

The NY Times reports, María Belén Chapur, a former Argentine TV producer was South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford’s South American lover.
Shortly after Chapur and the governor began their affair she sparked another relationship with a young Argentine man, the report said. After stumbling upon e-mail messages between her and the governor, Chapur‘s newly acquired boyfriend became upset and sent them to, The State, a South Carolina newspaper.

One of the messages that Chapur sent Sanford:

“He is a very nice guy, great heart,” she wrote, “but unfortunately I am not in love with him. You are my love. Something hard to believe even for myself as it’s also a kind of impossible love, not only because of distance but situation.”

She is currently married and has two sons, according to the report.

I don’t understand why she seems to like beginning new relationships without ending old ones.

Maybe some man treated her in a similar manner and now she is on a mission to cheat on every man possible. This kind of foolishness gets people killed. I am not, in any way, saying she or anyone else involved deserves to be killed, but being cheated on drives some people to murder.

Chapur is a lowdown, dirty shame, who is addicted to cheating.

SabreeThinks one should not toy around with another’s emotions, especially in regards to love and relationships.

SabreeThinks Good Hair Is Relative

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful

Your's Truly

What is “good hair?”

Growing up in an African-American community, “good hair” has always been identified to me as straight, wavy or curly hair, actually any texture of hair except naturally kinky hair, also known as nappy hair. This strange notion that almost everyone appeared to share has never seemed to make any sense to me.

What makes kinky hair bad?

Did some committee gather a long time ago and develop a handbook that outlined what constitutes “good hair?”

Many believe that any African physical feature is an ugly nuisance; everything from dark skin to wide noses, and of course “kinky hair.”

The late Michael Jackson got rid of all three; I am still dumbfounded by the drastic complexion change.

We have been programmed to believe “kinky hair” is ugly so African-Americans complain about the coarse and “unmanageable” hair that we are born with. It was manageable long before methods of straightening came about, so how is it all of a sudden unmanageable? The only reason it is unmanageable is because you do not care to manage it.

Mothers-to-be do not pray for healthy, law-abiding children. Instead all they pray for is that their newborn be blessed with “good hair.”

Madoff ordered to pay $170 billion

The biggest financial schemer in history, Bernard Madoff, 71, was ordered to forfeit more that $170 billion on Friday.

Madoff ran a high-end investment advisory business that was really a front for a sophisticated Ponzi scheme. A Ponzi scheme works on the “rob-Peter-to-pay-Paul” principle, as money from new investors is used to pay off earlier investors, according to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Official figures of how much financial loss Madoff caused over the decades hasn’t been calculated yet. The AP reported that since December 1995 alone accounts that he has opened suffered loses of $13.2 billion. He is due to be sentenced Monday and prosecutors want him to get the maximum 150-year sentence.

I think this guy and his wife, who claims she didn’t know of the elaborate scheme — yea right, deserve life in prison without the possibility of parole. People have gotten life-sentences for lesser crimes. His disregard for the financial well-being of his clients have ruined some of their lives from a financial standpoint.

What is a couple in their 80s, who losses 90% of their savings supposed to do?

He was a ruthless, heartless con-artist who deserves the worst punishment that the law can provide for him. Hopefully, they don’t send him to one of those country-club prisons like where they sent Martha Stewart. No, this guy needs to be in the slums, where he can really dwell on the mess that he orchestrated.

SabreeThinks they need to lock him up and throw away the key!

Courtesy of Getty Images: The case climaxed in September 2007 when thousands descended on Jena, Louisiana, population 3,000.

This was a sweat deal, that I think they deserved. I’m glad this case is finally closed. It makes me wonder how many other “Jena Six-like” cases are swept under the rug?

SabreeThinks had it not been for the media exposing this injustice all five young men would have gotten prison time.

Michael Jackson Lives, It’s True!

 Courtesy of Examiner.com

Yesterday I wrote that Michael Jackson, The King of Pop, died.

I came to the realization that Michael didn’t die. I’m not saying he faked his death, he was “bad” but not that bad.

His death brought thousands probably millions to the streets all around the world for vigils and remembrance celebrations. Many have been dressing up as him today and practicing dance moves that he coined. Millions uploaded his music for the first time to their iPods and social-networking pages. Last night, I even attempted to learn how to do the Moonwalk, again.

People are wondering what kind of funeral he is going to have. They are asking if it’s going to be religious and if so, which religion’s guidelines will it abide by. Michael, born a Jehovah’s Witness, reportedly converted to Islam in 2008.

Michael has inspired more people than anyone will ever know. His remarkable fan base, which will keep expanding will never be accurately numbered.

I think Michael’s funeral will draw billions of viewers making it one of the most-viewed funerals in modern history along with those of John Paul II and Princess Diana.

Yesterday Michael Jackson passed away.

SabreeThinks Michael will live in the hearts of millions until the end of time.

R.I.P. King of Pop

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, died today in a Los Angeles hospital, at age 50.

Some called him wacky, others tried to call him a child molester but Michael was the best entertainer, ever, hands down. No matter what critics said about him he was a musical genius, who will be missed dearly.

He broke records and redefined the music industry. Pressured by a stern father, most of his siblings were molded into musicians, including Janet Jackson.

The pressure turned Michael into a diamond.

SabreeThinks Michael was much more than an entertainer. He was a great humanitarian and person. May he rest in peace.

The AP reported:

LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted “King of Pop” who emerged from childhood superstardom to become the entertainment world’s most influential singer and dancer before his life and career deteriorated in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. He was 50.

The person said Jackson died in a Los Angeles hospital. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

The circumstances of his death were not immediately clear. Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m., Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda told the newspaper.

‘Jena Six’s’ lesser charges are fair, not racist!

The USA Today just published a story saying that the “Jena Six” will plead guilty to lesser charges in the upcoming days (see Full Story). Originally, they were charged with attempted second-degree murder.

Lousy S.C. Gov. takes an unannounced “exotic” trip

What in the h— was South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford thinking during his recent hiatus from duty?

If you haven’t heard the news yet, South Carolina was in disarray last week because their governor skipped out of town for five days to an undisclosed location.

South Carolina was going nuts looking for its kooky governor, who told everyone, including his wife, that he was going hiking on the Appalachian Trail. In actuality, Sanford took an “exotic” trip to Argentina.
AP photo

AP photo

In the midst of a recession, Sanford skipped out on responsibility and took his un-hard-earned money from the state’s taxpayers and went to South America for almost a week.

He didn’t even bother to contact his wife and children on Father’s Day to let them know where he was. This is truly a strange man who needs to be investigated. Sounds like to me he was up to no good.

UPDATE: He admitted he was in Argentina having an affair. If you recall, he ridiculed former President Clinton for his affair and wanted him impeached.

Fellow politicians say he goes A.W.O.L. often. If Sanford wants alone-time he needs to formally sever his governmental appointment.

SabreeThinks South Carolina voters were absurd for electing an unfit Gov. Sanford to a second term.
